Next Week ... 22 July 2013

Hello gorgeous gals!

Sorry for the lateness of this post. We had a power blackout here, which weirdly keep Gavin up and pacing!!!   Lucky I can update the blog via my iPhone :-)

Next Week's Workshop is ... Don't Stress!   $25
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
Grab out that edge distresser and let's get stressed :-)  A great double layout, lots of distressing and some gorgeous rouched endreaux. You will need 4 photos, 2 portrait @ 4x6", 1 landscape @ 5x7", 1 square @ 3x3".  You will also need your basic tool kit, inks, sewing needle, edge distresser and a title.

The next Scrap'n'roast, $20, is on the 27th July from 4pm. There's still a few spots left :-)

Next time you're in the shop keep a look out for extra specials - there are some cute storage jars for $1 - there's only 12!  New prima embellishments are selling fast from the counter area. There are 3 second hand paper racks for $25 each - they are collapsible and great for organizing your scrap area at home.

Well, stay toasty toasty warm, especially with a forecast of only 11degrees, brrrrrr.....
Happy scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 15 July 2013

Good morning lovely people :-)

I trust you are all well and keeping warm!  It's been a tad on the chilly side in the mornings, hasn't it?

I am sitting here with the cat trying to get onto my lap!!!  I have compromised by shuffling forward on the chair and letting her sit behind me...she is now purring loudly and at a great rate of purr knots!  I bought her a new bed yesterday, one of those cubby hole type ones.  Popped it in the laundry and threw the old one out, after I had finished sorting out the latest scrapping order, I went to find her to show her...couldn't find her anywhere!!  Where was she ... in the new bed!! LOL!!  I guess it was a hit!

Nearly half way through the school holidays, don't know about you, but I've been having a lovely time this week with my daughter :-)  My son has been up in the hills on Epilepsy Camp, picking him up this afternoon and shall find out all the mischief he got up to!

Next Weeks Workshop is ...
TAKE IT APART    $18
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
I love music paper, as you all know.  I must really love this paper because I ordered it twice!!  Looking at it loving ;-) I realised how easy it would be to cut it all up into the individual music pieces that went to make up the collage page...so I did!!  Now you are going to do it too :-D  You will choose your own background and cardstock colours, but the music collage paper will be the same - as it is neutral it will go with whatever colours you like.  You will need one 4x6" potrait photo (you can get away with landscape orientation if you like), basic tool kit and inks.

Next week is also our next Art Journal adventure, yay!!
Friday 12-2pm and 7-9pm.  $17
We are going to be using a product called Ezy Shaid - lots of fun!  We are going to be using white rubons (included) as a resist on our page.  Also included in the workshop are three bottles of Ezy Shaid in the colours of your choice.  You will need to gesso your two page spread - now I only gessoed my page once as I wanted to be able to see the writing faintly through the background, but you can do more coats if you like.  You will also need a black journal/paint pen (I used my fine sharpie).  I also want you to find a quote that means something to you, to write on your page - not a short one, but not an essay either!

Oooooo, it's just started raining here....hot chocolate and good movie while snuggling on the lounge with the dog, cat and daughter ;-)

Have a great weekend,
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 8th July 2013

Good morning Sunshine :-)

I hope you've all be keeping snug as a bug!  I have been looking after Daniel, who was of course "dying" with his cold and couldn't possibly do anything except let me wait on him hand and foot! ....I think I may have caught it - bugger!  Although you will be glad to know, that I am not dying and have no slave to wait on me - LOL!

Off to see Phantom of the Opera at the Arts Theatre tonight!!  Can't wait!  With dinner at Ying Chow beforehand, it's bound to be a fantastic evening :-)

Next Week's Workshop is ...
Out of the Office   $24
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am

OMG!! How on earth do you fit an 8x10 photo, 5 4x6 photos and more on one double layout??  You take a look at and borrow some ideas from the office of course!  Packed with pockets and file folders this amazing layout holds 10 photos!!  WOW!
You will need 10 photos -
1 Landscape @ 8x10
5 Portrait @ 4x6
2 Portrait @ 3x4
1 Portrait @ 2 7/8x3 1/4
1 Portrait @ 2 3/4x3 1/2
You will also need your basic tool kit, inks, border punch (not a deep one), shape punch (eg. butterfly, star, heart), foam mounting tape, title, craft knife and ruler.
**I have used a sheet of printed tags and elements to complete my layout, this is not included in the class as you can use any tags, papers and embellishments.

Bookings are open for the next Scrap'n'Roast, $20, on the 27th July from 4pm.  If this cold weather keeps up, might even make it a Scrap'n'Soup!!  That'll warm the cockles of your heart :-)  Some of you will remember when I first started the Saturday scraps, it was always a couple of hearty soups with crusty bread - delicious!!! Let me know when you book in - majority will rule.

The next Art Journal workshop is during the holidays on Friday 19th July.  Bookings essential.

Apologies for no newsletter - my computer has gone off to the doctors and is still under intensive care!!  Luckily for my iPad, so I can still update you weekly, but I don't have my calendar on here.  I did manage to resuscitate  my computer briefly and print off the month page, so I shall get that photocopied and you can pick up a copy next time you're in the shop.

So, did anyone get any photos of the super moon?  I managed a few when it was higher in the sky, but they aren't that good, I needed a much longer lens.  But, wasn't it beautiful?  So bright, when it wasn't behind the cloud cover!

Next Week ... 24th June 2013

Good morning beautiful people :-)

Keep warm and snug as a bug?  Great time to scrap, isn't it?

Did you know that a ‘Super Moon’ 30% brighter than an average Full Moon’s brightness will occur on Sunday 23 June 2013 (at 9:32 pm AEST,  9.03pm here in Adelaide). The Moon will appear larger than any other Moon of 2013 as June’s Full Moon occurs within 32 minutes of the Moon’s closest approach to the Earth for the year.

The reason for the increase in the apparent size of the Moon has to do with the Moon’s egg shaped or elliptical orbit. There is approximately a 50,000 kilometre difference between when the Moon is at its closest (perigee) and it’s furthest from the Earth (what is referred to as apogee). June 2013′s Full Moon will occur at almost the same time as the closest approach of the Moon to the Earth for the year at a mere 356,991 kilometers.

Great time for some full moon shots!!!  Here is a link to an article about photographing the moon - http://photographylife.com/how-to-photograph-moon.   It is supposed to be clear on Sunday, so I am going to don my fingerless gloves and rug up to take some photos.  The moon actually rises at 5.10, so you don't have to wait until 9 to get some good shots.  If you take some moon shots, why not share them on my photography page? www.facebook.com/madebymandyphotography Would love to see them there :-)

My friend Trisha, from An Artsy Adventure, is once again running her kit club, yay!!  You have seen the mini albums and pages I have done with her in the past....so if you'd like to join the next round of kit club you can find all the information here - http://artsyadventure.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/long-overdue-update.html  (down the bottom of the post).  If you do join up, let me know so we can share shipping and even make a special scrapping play-date to complete the projects in the scraproom :-)

Today and tonight is our next instalment of Art Journaling!!!  We are going to be doing our covers, so please bring back the bits you received last time.  If you get this email/update in time, can you please gesso your page?  Sorry I forgot to put that in the newsletter instructions, oopsie!

Next Week' Workshop is ...
Tattered Frame   $23
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
I found this lovely picture tutorial on the web and for the life of me I can’t remember where - that’s the problem with blog readers, sometimes you don’t remember the site your looking at!  Anyway, this layout has a totally scrumptious tattered frame framing the one landscape 4”x6” photo.  We will be making a gorgeous rose from our patterned paper and decorating with bling!  You will need your basic tool kit, inks, paper piercer,  journal pen, craft knife, edge distressor and if you have a circle template, that would be handy too, but not essential - I used bottles and the like for my circles ;-)

Scrap'n'Roast
Saturday 29th June 4pm-midnight

Come along on a Saturday afternoon & evening for 8 hours of scrapping fun!  Bring your photos & tools then crop the night away.  A roast hot from the Weber & salad will be served for dinner.  Softies are in the fridge and the kettle is always handy for a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate!  There are always nibbles on the table … and yes ... you might even get some scrapping done!!!
Payment in full is required to secure your booking.
Cancellations made 48 hours before and no-shows are liable to pay the balance of the evening.
Cost includes dinner, drink & nibbles – a great deal!

Hope to see photos of the supermoon on my facebook page. Have a great weekend!
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Good morning one and all :-)

I hope you've had a great week.  We had a wonderful relaxing long weekend away, waking up to Kookaburras laughing in the trees - just lovely!  I celebrated my birthday yesterday, (sneakily forgot to mention that to the ladies in class!!) I had a wonderful day receiving messages and a lovely vietnamese dinner with my family.

Next Week's Workshop is ...
Take Note - Page Maps June   $23
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
This fun page map reminded me of note pages, the photos mounted of the pages from a book, very cool!  I traced the tabs from the page map in Sure Cuts A Lot - I just loved the shape and didn’t have anything like that in my library, another very cool thing!! Love it when experiments are successful :-)
You will need your basic tool kit, inks, paper piercer, a border punch that reminds you of note paper, your title and something to colour the included diecut tabs and title block with - I used glimmermist, you could also use, smooch sprays, inks or paint.
You will also need 6 square photos @ 3"x3".

Off to get ready for a birthday lunch with one of my best friends and a bit of setting up for my party :-)
Hope you have a fantastic weekend too!
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 10 June 2013

Good morning wonderful peoples :-)

How have you all been keeping?  I hope you are keeping warm and scrapping heaps!

I was doing a little organizing (not too much though!) and labelled all my distress inks...what do you think?
I used my label maker with white paper tape so I could add the colour next to the name, I shall leave it to your imagination as to how colourful my fingertips were for the evening!  Now it's super easy to see which colour to use and it looks very cute too!!

Did you know that Distress Inks are refillable?  Unless the pad is a complete mess, you can buy a refill bottle and re-ink them! Excellent!!  There are limited stocks of Distress Inks in store now.

The June Newsletter went out earlier this week, if you haven't downloaded it yet, head on over to Made by Mandy's Newsletter page and download it today.

Some great specials are on for the entire month of June.  Fantastic way to stock up on your stash!!!

Punchy Goodness $20
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am

They are there...hiding in the back of your scrap space...punches!!!  Go through all your punches and find one shape, not too small, that you would like repeating all over the background of a layout!! I used a paisley punch that I found right at the bottom my one of my punch baskets, I’d even forgotten I had it! The overall effect is just awesome, fiddly but fun :-) You will need your basic tool kit, inks, foam mounting tape, a shape punch, one border punch (not too deep) and another border punch that you can cut the border apart into just under 1” pieces...start looking!!  You will also need 4 portrait orientation photos @ 4”x6”.
