Good morning everyone :-)

Apologies for no newsletter - my computer has gone off to the doctors and is still under intensive care!!  Luckily for my iPad, so I can still update you weekly, but I don't have my calendar on here.  I did manage to resuscitate  my computer briefly and print off the month page, so I shall get that photocopied and you can pick up a copy next time you're in the shop.

So, did anyone get any photos of the super moon?  I managed a few when it was higher in the sky, but they aren't that good, I needed a much longer lens.  But, wasn't it beautiful?  So bright, when it wasn't behind the cloud cover!

Next Week ... 24th June 2013

Good morning beautiful people :-)

Keep warm and snug as a bug?  Great time to scrap, isn't it?

Did you know that a ‘Super Moon’ 30% brighter than an average Full Moon’s brightness will occur on Sunday 23 June 2013 (at 9:32 pm AEST,  9.03pm here in Adelaide). The Moon will appear larger than any other Moon of 2013 as June’s Full Moon occurs within 32 minutes of the Moon’s closest approach to the Earth for the year.

The reason for the increase in the apparent size of the Moon has to do with the Moon’s egg shaped or elliptical orbit. There is approximately a 50,000 kilometre difference between when the Moon is at its closest (perigee) and it’s furthest from the Earth (what is referred to as apogee). June 2013′s Full Moon will occur at almost the same time as the closest approach of the Moon to the Earth for the year at a mere 356,991 kilometers.

Great time for some full moon shots!!!  Here is a link to an article about photographing the moon - http://photographylife.com/how-to-photograph-moon.   It is supposed to be clear on Sunday, so I am going to don my fingerless gloves and rug up to take some photos.  The moon actually rises at 5.10, so you don't have to wait until 9 to get some good shots.  If you take some moon shots, why not share them on my photography page? www.facebook.com/madebymandyphotography Would love to see them there :-)

My friend Trisha, from An Artsy Adventure, is once again running her kit club, yay!!  You have seen the mini albums and pages I have done with her in the past....so if you'd like to join the next round of kit club you can find all the information here - http://artsyadventure.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/long-overdue-update.html  (down the bottom of the post).  If you do join up, let me know so we can share shipping and even make a special scrapping play-date to complete the projects in the scraproom :-)

Today and tonight is our next instalment of Art Journaling!!!  We are going to be doing our covers, so please bring back the bits you received last time.  If you get this email/update in time, can you please gesso your page?  Sorry I forgot to put that in the newsletter instructions, oopsie!

Next Week' Workshop is ...
Tattered Frame   $23
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
I found this lovely picture tutorial on the web and for the life of me I can’t remember where - that’s the problem with blog readers, sometimes you don’t remember the site your looking at!  Anyway, this layout has a totally scrumptious tattered frame framing the one landscape 4”x6” photo.  We will be making a gorgeous rose from our patterned paper and decorating with bling!  You will need your basic tool kit, inks, paper piercer,  journal pen, craft knife, edge distressor and if you have a circle template, that would be handy too, but not essential - I used bottles and the like for my circles ;-)

Scrap'n'Roast
Saturday 29th June 4pm-midnight

Come along on a Saturday afternoon & evening for 8 hours of scrapping fun!  Bring your photos & tools then crop the night away.  A roast hot from the Weber & salad will be served for dinner.  Softies are in the fridge and the kettle is always handy for a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate!  There are always nibbles on the table … and yes ... you might even get some scrapping done!!!
Payment in full is required to secure your booking.
Cancellations made 48 hours before and no-shows are liable to pay the balance of the evening.
Cost includes dinner, drink & nibbles – a great deal!

Hope to see photos of the supermoon on my facebook page. Have a great weekend!
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Take Note - Page Maps June   $23
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
This fun page map reminded me of note pages, the photos mounted of the pages from a book, very cool!  I traced the tabs from the page map in Sure Cuts A Lot - I just loved the shape and didn’t have anything like that in my library, another very cool thing!! Love it when experiments are successful :-)
You will need your basic tool kit, inks, paper piercer, a border punch that reminds you of note paper, your title and something to colour the included diecut tabs and title block with - I used glimmermist, you could also use, smooch sprays, inks or paint.
You will also need 6 square photos @ 3"x3".

Off to get ready for a birthday lunch with one of my best friends and a bit of setting up for my party :-)
Hope you have a fantastic weekend too!
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 10 June 2013

Good morning wonderful peoples :-)

How have you all been keeping?  I hope you are keeping warm and scrapping heaps!

I was doing a little organizing (not too much though!) and labelled all my distress inks...what do you think?
I used my label maker with white paper tape so I could add the colour next to the name, I shall leave it to your imagination as to how colourful my fingertips were for the evening!  Now it's super easy to see which colour to use and it looks very cute too!!

Did you know that Distress Inks are refillable?  Unless the pad is a complete mess, you can buy a refill bottle and re-ink them! Excellent!!  There are limited stocks of Distress Inks in store now.

The June Newsletter went out earlier this week, if you haven't downloaded it yet, head on over to Made by Mandy's Newsletter page and download it today.

Some great specials are on for the entire month of June.  Fantastic way to stock up on your stash!!!

Punchy Goodness $20
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am

They are there...hiding in the back of your scrap space...punches!!!  Go through all your punches and find one shape, not too small, that you would like repeating all over the background of a layout!! I used a paisley punch that I found right at the bottom my one of my punch baskets, I’d even forgotten I had it! The overall effect is just awesome, fiddly but fun :-) You will need your basic tool kit, inks, foam mounting tape, a shape punch, one border punch (not too deep) and another border punch that you can cut the border apart into just under 1” pieces...start looking!!  You will also need 4 portrait orientation photos @ 4”x6”.

The next Art Journaling Workshop, $13, is on the 21st June, 12.30-2.30pm and 7-9pm.

Next Week ... 3 June 2013

Good morning :-)

How are you on this last day of Autumn?  Just to make sure we knew it really was autumn, mother nature has thrown in some lovely rain and cool nights - but the past days have been lovely!!  Can't believe tomorrow is the beginning of winter!

I spent a wonderful day on Wednesday with the fantastic Trisha Ladouceur, back in Australia for her 2013 Artsy Adventure.  If you like what I did and I am more than happy to show you, you will have to join me if she comes again next year - which we all encouraged her to do! The lovely staff at Paper Flourish, Enfield were the perfect hosts.  All in all a beautiful messy arty day :-)

Next Week's Workshop is ...
What's All the Fuss About?   $22
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
Dig out those craft knives or fine tip scissors - we are going to be fussy cutting!  I roamed the web for vintage rose images and printed them onto card for you to fussy cut out.  Now don't worry, they are not too intricate!  Fussy cutting is so much fun and you will love the way once they are on your page, they look like they are just part of the paper :-)
You will need your basic tool kit, inks, craft knife - with a new blade and don't forget your reading glasses... if you wear them!!!
You will also need two photos, 1 portrait orientation @ 4"x6" and 1 portrait orientation @ 5"x7".

The next Scrap'n'Roast will be on the 29th June, 4pm-midnight, $20.  Bookings with full payment essential.
*48 hours notice required for cancellation, no refund given for less than 48 hours notice.

The next Art Journal workshop will be on the 21st June, 12.30-2.30pm and 7-9pm.

Just a quick note about notifying me when you can't make workshops, speciality workshops and scrap'n'roasts.  Please, please, let me know, you can either email me - madebymandy@hotmail.com, ring or text me on 0430 099 198 to cancel your spot.   I need to know numbers for set up and especially for scrap'n'roasts, where I buy food based on the numbers who have booked in.  Too often I get last minute phone calls cancelling and I have already bought the required food or scrap supplies.  Thank you for your understanding.

Good bye Autumn, Hello Winter!
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 27th May 2013

Greetings and salutations :-)

How are you all this fine Autumn day?

Today is Art Journalling Day!!  Looking forward to getting messy - yay :-)

Tomorrow there's a Scrap'n'Roast from 4pm until midnight.  $20 for 8 hours of scrapping fun with a roast dinner!  Places still available.

Next Week's Workshop is ...
Attack Your Stash   $10
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
Remember the old text books and scientific journals that would have a page full of photos, all numbered and then down the bottom or to the side there was the corresponding number with a brief description of the photo??  Well.... we are going to emulate that in a scrappy kind of way, with an astounding 10 photos!

From your stash you will need -
  • Background - 2 x cardstock or paper (don't have too much of a pattern if you choose paper.)
  • Contrasts - 1/4 of a page (i.e. 4"x12") of about 9 different patterned papers, if you grab double sided you'll need less of course.
  • Journaling - needs to be printed onto normal white photocopy/printer paper.  Numbered 1 to 10 your photo description - keep them brief!  It can be no wider than 9cm, add a double space between each number/description.
  • Title
  • Embellishments (I am planning on using buttons with twine and some circle punchies)
  • Inks
Your 10 photos need to be 3 1/2"x2 3/4" in a landscape orientation.

Okey dokey - off to hang out my washing :-)
Happy Scrapping!
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 20th May 2013

Good morning lassies :-)

Just getting the last of the Brigadoonian influences out of my system!!

Just a reminder to everyone not to wear perfume and scented sprays when attending workshops.  I am highly sensitive and in the confines of the scraproom, it is very overpowering for me, resulting in awful headaches, painful sinuses and lots of ventolin to relieve my breathing.  Thank you in advance :-)

Next Week's Workshop is ...
A Pocketful of Memories   $28
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
This lovely double layout, inspired by Jane Treganza from the Graphic 45 design team, features one photo, all the rest are neatly stowed inside two pockets along with any memorabilia you may wish to add.  There's lots and lots of layering, ending with a cute steampunk type clock diecut that I have made for you.  I have put all my leftovers in the pockets for now and when I have all my Brigadoon photos, I shall print and mat them.
You will need one landscape 4"x6" photo (you can add all your others after class).
You will also need your basic tool kit, inks, paper piercer, a title and any other embellishments that suit your photo/theme - as you can see I have cut myself out some bagpipes and a decorative fleur de lis.

Scrap'n'Roast  $20
Saturday 25th May, 4pm - midnight
There are still spots left if you would like to come along and scrap the night away :-)

Art Journal   $15
Friday 12.30-2.30pm and Friday 7-9pm
We are going to be using shipping tags and paint for the next addition to our art journal.  Plus, we will be decorating our covers!!!
Before the workshop you will need to gesso your cover - at least twice, then paint it a soft brown.  If you already have a nice plain cover - then by all means leave it and you can decorate straight onto it like I did.  We will be using serviettes, so just remember any writing will show through.
You will also need to gesso your page.  If you can see the writing, you need to do another layer of gesso :-)
You will need to bring your paints (at least 4 colours + white), glues (tripletac and bostick gluestick), ink (a light brownish/yellowish stainy type colour), heat gun, paint brushes, scissors and a black journal pen.   For the cover you will need tripletac, black stazon ink and some flourish type stamps (I used flourishes and butterflies).  You will add your own title (art, art journal, journal, my art, etc....) at home, so don't worry about that for now.

Okey dokey, off to get the washing done and dry while the sun is shining!  Have yourselves a lovely weekend.
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)
