Next Week ... 26th May 2014

Good morning :-)

Our glorious weather continues, amazingly!  Isn't it lovely to get the washing dry each day.  Opening the house for fresh air and not be cold!  Does this mean when winter actually gets a hold it will be mild or viciously cold?

Unfortunately, the lovely weather hasn't stopped people getting sick.  Hope you are all feeling a lot better soon :-)

You may have noticed that I have been changing the loyalty cards.  The old postcard size loyalty cards will no longer be used after the 31st May.  The new loyalty cards, which are business card sized and fit nicely in your wallets, once completed will give you 10% off any purchase or workshop, but not valid for any products on order or for the Scrap'n'Roast fee. Remember to get your card signed when you pay for your workshops as they will not be back-signed.

Next Week's Workshop is ...
Perfectly Pearly   $30
NO WORKSHOP MONDAY NIGHT
Thursday 1-3pm

You are going to love this wonderful product - Perfect Pearls from Ranger!  There are so many things you can do with this magic powder and in this workshop we are going to be making a flourishy pearlescent background.  Included in this workshop is a pot of Perfect Pearls (because I know you will want to do this again!!!) and a lovely flourish stamp.
There are 4 photos on this layout - 1 portrait @ 4"x6" and 3 landscape @ 4"x6".
You will need your basic tool kit, a border punch (I used one of my deep edge ones), soft flat paintbrush or an old small makeup blush brush (clean of course:-), acrylic block for the stamp, embossing ink (I found the best one is the distress embossing ink pad - there are some available for purchase in the shop),  a title (I used very large rubons - which didn't work well over the perfect pearl background!  I would recommend stickers or a diecut title.), inks and a small water spray bottle (travel size - I got mine from cheap as chips, I also have mini ones in the shop).

SCRAP'N'ROAST   $10
Saturday 31st May 4pm - midnight
It's that time of the month again.  Yay!!  There are still some spots left for you to come along and scrap the night away.

ART JOURNALING UPDATE
Due to lots abscences from this week's art journal workshop, we did something completely different than what was arranged!  Next month's workshop will be what was supposed to happen this month, so no-one will miss out on beginning their technique journal as well as continuing in our altered book art journals :-)
I thought you might like to see what we did instead!  We followed a tutorial from Scrap Centrale - Mixed Media Friday.  Slightly different to adapt to what we had on hand, but lots of fun.  We learnt a new technique with tissue paper and colouring texture paste.  It was fun working along during the afternoon with the tutorial on the ipad, playing and pausing, so we could follow along!
Here are three pages.  The first is mine from the afternoon workshop, the second, which is unfinished, is from the evening workshop and the third, also unfinished, is Jennifer's.  Lots of messy fun :-D

Well, that's all for this week.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 19th May 2014

Hello everyone,

Are you enjoying this unseasonably glorious weather we've been having this week?  Just beautiful!  All my washing is up to date, the house has been open and airing during the day, even got a little gardening done :-) Really makes you feel good, doesn't it?

I am now working on a Thursday morning, so girls don't panic if the doors not up, I will probably be arriving home at the same time as you :-)  I shall have to get into the habit of getting the room all ready the night before.  So if you need to ring me, try not to do it Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings as I can't always answer my phone at work.

Next Week's workshop is ...
Banners and Bunting Aplenty   $20
This is such a cute layout, with so much potential for fun!  The bunting hangs freely at the top, so it will move when the page is turned, with the odd sized banners to accent the main photo - this page is ready to party!!!  You will need 5 photos, all @ 4"x6", 2 portrait and 3 landscape. You will also need a border punch, journal pen, 1 - 1 1/2 circle punch, circle cutting system (about 3" or so), a title (which goes in the 3" circle) and your inks.

ArtJournaling   $28
Friday 23rd 1-3pm and 7-9pm
Life is a Beautiful Thing - isn't it?  In this workshop, I am making up for the lack of an April workshop!!!! We are going to begin by starting a technique book (which is included in the workshop), each month we will do a little starter in our technique book where you can try different media and write yourself little notes to remind you how we did or used certain things.  Then, onto to our layout using the beautiful metallic or pearl paints (included in the workshop) as a background wash, then building up the layers finishing with some washi tape (also included in the workshop). You will need to bring acrylic paint - including black and white, gesso, old toothbrush or stiff bristled paint brush, stickers or rubons for the words "is", "a" and "thing" - in black or white, black stazon ink pad, heat gun, baby wipes and tripletac or gel medium for gluing.  You will also need a small (travel size) spray bottle - you can get them from cheap as chips for a dollar, I used an old glimmermist bottle.

Have a wonderful weekend, enjoying the weather while we can!
Happy scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 12th May 2014

Good morning and Happy Mother's Day to all the mum's :-)

My children are still in bed, my hubby's gone to golf, I've put on the first load of washing ... a typical day in my household!  HOLD THE FORT, NEWS FLASH - 1 child is up!!!  I have been given a hug, been told Happy Mother's day and asked what's for breakfast - I suggested french toast ... no pancakes are wanted!  I pointed out they are almost the same thing, so now I've been told I can make french toast for myself if I want it and they will just have rice bubbles.  Yep, just another typical day, nothing special to see here - just another mother taken for granted!

Next Week's Workshop is ...

Art Journal Tool Kit

Many of you have asked what’s in an Art Journal Tool Kit. And the honest answer is EVERYTHING. But with just a few basic supplies you can begin to create endless colorful pages to “wow” yourself.
For workshops I give you a detailed description of what is needed or provided, but you’ll want to build a kit so yo can art journal at home too. Here are the bare bone basics.
  • Scissors. Ruler. Pencil.
  • Wax-Paper. The ultimate pre and post page protector.  Grab yourself a cheap roll from Coles and keep it handy.
  • Old Rag. Just any old tattered thing will do. I use cut-up old t-shirts.
  • Baby Wipes. You need them. Period.
  • Black permanent pens You can be fancy with PITT-Pens and Dip-Pens, but really Sharpies are awesome. You’ll need TWO: the fine and ultra (or extra) fine tips.
  • Glue stick I have tried many, my favourite is the Bostik GluStik - It always sticks well and is acid free as well.  If you are looking at other brands, make sure it states “permanent.”
  • Glue Adhesive/Gel Medium When it comes to glue there is white glue, tacky glue, ultimate glue, mod-podge, matte-medium, gel-medium, lions, tigers, and bears OH MY! If you were only choosing one – go with gel-medium. It does so many good things.
  • Water Cup and Painters Pallet  A water cup is an old plastic container and the palette is the lid. It’s that simple. Put these in your kit!
  • Paint Brushes Go simple. I have buckets of brushes, you will get to know your favourites.
  • Foam Brushes Buy them on sale. Always have a few in your kit.
  • Plastic Card Old credit card, gift card, etc…
  • Alpha Stamps Simple font stamps of each letter of the alphabet.
  • Background Stamps for create the visual look of texture on your pages
  • StazOn Black Ink Pad The only ink pad you’ll ever need for “stamps.”
  • Watercolor Crayons (water-soluble  pastels) Simply magic wonder-love goodness. The ease of crayons, built into what should be considered a 7th wonder of the world.
  • Watercolor Cakes/Pan. any set with at least 12-colors will do just fine. I like the one from Big W kids art section
  • Gesso a staple for priming your backgrounds, watered down wash, splattering....
  • Paint glorious paint, such gorgeous colours to choose from, so many ways to use it.
  • Stencils so many designs to choose from!!! Plus all those found items - sequin waste, bubble wrap, onion bags ...
  • Texture Paste yummy texture goodness, can be tinted, painted or used au naturale.
  • Optional Extras: this could be oil pastels, chalk pastels, watercolor pencils, pens, acrylic paint, glitter glue!, rub-ons, etc….
There are many other things you may collect over time.  But these are the basics.  Hope this helps :-)

Well, the washing machine has finished, so I better go hang it out and put the next load on.

You'll be pleased to hear my other child has just gotten out of bed, given me a hug, said happy mother's day and I love you, then a present and beautiful card, awwwwww.......  And it's not the child you think!  This was Daniel!!!!  So completely the wrong way around, lol!

Still making my own breakfast ;-P

Enjoy your day,
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next week ... 5th May 2014

Hello my scrappy friends :-)

Things are starting to move and decluttering is beginning .... slowly, lol!  The turtles have gone to a new home at Moonta, my old black tenor sax has gone to Salisbury to make music in a gospel group, now to begin going through the house ruthlessly!!!  Muahahahahahaha!  Hoping that the caravan will find a new family to adventure with soon, so I can park back in the driveway ;-P

Had a lovely time scrapping last night at the Scrap'n'Roast, the next one is on the 31st May.  There are still spots available if you'd like to come along.

Next Week's Workshop is ...
RAISED STANDARDS   $21
Monday 5th @ 7-9pm and Thursday 8th @ 1-3pm
We are going to have a bit of fun with dry embossing on this layout. Dry embossing leaves a raised texture which is fun to ink, sand or leave au naturale!  You will need 7 photos for this layout, 2 landscape @ 4"x6"; 2 portrait @ 4"x6" and 3 square @ 3"x3". You will also need your basic tool kit and inks.

Happy scrapping,
Mandy :-)
