Next week ... 2 September 2013

Good morning everyone :-)

Wasn't it nice to have some sunshine?  On Tuesday I opened up the house to let the sunshine in and hang the washing outside for the first time in weeks, ahhhhhh......  It is good for the soul!  Back to rainy, but that's nice too, watering the gardening and filling up the rain water tanks :-)

Excitement plus... I have finished my diary cover!  Stunning - even if I say so myself!  Sometimes I amaze myself when something turns out so well - lol!  First photo is the cover drying in the sunshine, just having had it's final clear coat (I used a spray paint, clear, as it is going to get a lot of use), then you can see it with it's canvas spine covering.  Love, love, love how it has turned out!  So shabby chic and pretty :-)  Inspired by Finnabair from Poland, who I was lucky enough to do a workshop with earlier this year.  Had to modify the technique as I haven't been able to get the sprays that Anna uses, so I have used glimmermist sprays, distress ink and paints.  What you can't see in the photo, is the edges of the diary pages - I sprayed them with a stencil and glimmermist for the cutest look ever!!  Don't worry, I will have it in the workshop so you can all see it in real life :-)

The Mixed Media Canvas, inspired by Finnabair and my diary above, is on later this month.  Places are limited, so early bookings are essential. A $20 deposit is required to secure your place. I know you have all been waiting for me to come up with my own take on Finnabairs lovely technique!  The canvas will be held over two Saturday workshops, the 21st @ 1-3pm and the 28th @ 10am-12pm. Hope to see you there :-)

September's newsletter has been uploaded to the newsletter page of the blog.  Another month of fun and exciting workshops are in stall for you, including a gorgeous canvas using the same technique as my diary cover!  Bookings are open for all September workshops now :-)

Next Week's workshop is ...
PAGE MAPS   $20
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am

This months page map has a lovely simple look with clean lines that you’ll want to recreate a few more times, I’m sure.  In keeping with it’s simple look, there is a cute sewn border around the page edge that I know you are going to love! You will need 6 photos for this double layout, 1 portrait @ 5x7”; 2 landscape @ 4x3” and 3 portrait @ 3x4”.  You will also need your basic tool kit, a title, border punch, inks and embellishments to suit your photo theme (I used a fairy diecut).

UPCOMING DATES THIS MONTH

  • Scrap'n'Roast $20 21st
  • Mixed Media Canvas $80 21st and 28th
  • Art Journal Workshop $14 27th
Stay warm and dry!
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 26th August 2013

Hello everyone :-)

Hope you've all been keeping warm and dry! Instead of scrapping (like I should have been) I have been cleaning up my scrapping area inside. Felt good to fill both the rubbish and recycling bin to the brim and the back of the car with donations for the salvos. I picked up this metal trolley from ikea and decorated it (Mandyified it!) before I even put it together :-) I used music paper and plain white photocopy paper to make the layered paper lace!  Looks great in my scrap area and I will use it for all my mostly used and go to stuff. Doesn't it look cute alongside my paint/glimmermist stand?

Have you been up to anything crafty???  Apart from my trolley, I have done the next step with my diary cover.  It has now been all covered with gesso, so it's primed and ready for glimmermist spraying and painting :-)  The great part about cleaning up is the stuff you find!  Like a packet of sticky back canvas, that I have stamped and will ink, spray and paint to use as the spine of my diary cover:-D Love getting my hands (and mind!) messy with these types of projects! Stay tuned for more installments...

Tomorrow night, 24th, is Scrap'n'roast night :-)  8 hours of scrapping fun and frivolity, a roast dinner and great company. Still some spots if you're interested.

Next week's workshop is ...
GET DRESSED   $28
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9:30-11:30am
The centerpiece of this layout is the stunning Dusty Attic chipboard dress form, which has been dressed and adorned in the most simple and beautiful way :-)  I will show you how to glue and glitter your dress form into a dazzling masterpiece!  You will need three photos for this layout, 2 portrait @ 3x4" and 1 landscape @ 4x6".  You will also need your basic tool kit, inks, 2 border punches, a title and some glitter.

Stay well and happy scrapping,
Mandy :-)

This Week ... 19th August 2013

Oh My Goodness!!!!  I forgot to update the blog on Friday!!!  Still getting used to my change in routine I guess, lol!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, keeping out of the rain and wind, staying warm.  Did you get to be crafty?  I did!  I got carried away with the cover of my 2014 diary!  It's only been glued with a myriad of bits, the begining stages...stay tuned as a I paint, spray and decorate it even more!
if you like this look and technique, then stayed tuned for an upcoming canvas workshop using the same techniques ;-)

This weeks workshop is ...
FLUTTERBY   $27
Monday 7-9 pm and Thursday 9:30-11:30am
This simple page is made extra special with the use of Dusty Attice chipboard flutterbys and a hessian butterfly.  As well as the clever use of a direct paper.  You will need 7 photos, 1 portrait @ 5x7"; 2 landscape @ 2x3"; 1 landscape @ 5x7"; 3 portrait @ 2x3".  You will also need your basic tool kit, inks, circle punch - 3/4", 1", 1 1/2" and 2", a cir le cutting system to cut a 10" circle, foam mounting tape, corner rounder and a border punch.  There is hand sewing on this layout, but this will not be done in class.

The next scrap'nroast is on this Saturday 24th August, starting at 4pm.  There's not many booked in, so if you're thinking about coming along, can you let me know before I have to cancel the evening :-) That would be tragic!

Well, better stop here and get this published so you can all see what you need this week!
Happy scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 12th August 2013

Hello my friends,

I do hope you all enjoyed this week's workshop - all those separate partitions!!  I know it was a lot of cutting, you all did so well :-)  By now you should have added your photos and I am sure they look fantastic!!

Next Week's Workshop is ...
Attack Your Stash - Junk Journal  $12
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am

This gorgeous junk journal is perfect for any occasion!  You will need to go through your stash and find about 20 pieces of varying sizes of cardstock and patterned paper, nothing bigger than 8x10” though.  Just choose a colour scheme and start scrounging!  It would probably be a good idea to bring more than needed, as I am sure once you put it together, you’ll change your mind about one bit or another!  You will need 2 full sheets of patterned paper for the cover and 2 full sheets for the inside cover as well as 12” of ribbon.  I also used a 4” strip of paper on the cover to look like book binding.  You will also need your basic tool kit, inks, minimum of 2 border punches and a corner rounder.  Any other embellishing will be done at home after the workshop.

Art Journal   $14
Friday 12.45-2.45pm and 7-9pm

We are going to have a bit of fun with our stencils and some texture paste, punches and some stamps.  Please gesso your page well before class.  You are going to need to bring your paints, stencils (I used a harlequin type one and some odd dots, but any will be fine), an old credit card or itunes card to use as a spreader, a stamp that you can colour in (I used a flower and leaves stamp), a background stamp, tripletac, cardstock off cuts, small flower punch, small leaf punch, small butterfly punch, ink to ink your cardstock and a black stazon ink pad.  The saying for this month is - “The purpose of art is to wash the dust of daily life off our souls.”  I will have this all printed out for you as well as a cute bird and branch cut from cardstock to add to your page :-)

Hope you have a great weekend,
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)

Next Week ... 5th August 2013

Hello my scrappy friends :-)

If you haven't seen it already, the August newsletter is up on the website and ready for downloading and perusing - madebymandynewsletter.blogspot.com.au
I think you will really love the workshops this month.  Book in to your favourite classes now.

If you'd like to get cheap tickets to see Grease, head on over to the blog and see the last post with details on how to order and pay for your tickets.  Ticket sales are going really well with four of the performances nearly sold out already!!!

Has anyone booked into Heidi Swapp's Pretty Things Down Under Workshop on the 11th November?  If you are thinking about it, I wouldn't take too long as I am sure it will book out very quickly.

Next Week's Workshop is ...
Partitioned - Kit Class  $30
Monday 7-9pm and Thursday 9.30-11.30am
This kit class is jammed packed with everything you need to create 4, yes 4, pages!!!!  We will be using partitioned page protectors, each 4x6 area holds either a photo or a mini page.  The sketch, I designed, as well as a copy of the cutting blueprints will be included in the kit, so you can replicate the layout again.  The beauty is if you mix up all the individual mini pages, each time you will get a different look and use a whole heap of photos to boot!  You will need 11 photos to complete the 4 pages.  1 portrait @ 6x8”; 3 landscape @ 4x6”; 1 landscape @ 4¼x2¼”; 5 portrait @ 4x6” and 1 portrait @ 5x3”.  You will also need your basic tool kit, a brown ink (like pinecone) and a border punch (I used two different ones, both not too deep).

Bookings are open for the next Scrap'n'Roast on the 24th August and Art Journal Workshop on 16th August.  These always fill up fast, so book in now!

I have stopped the monthly specials that appear in the newsletter and on the bottom of the weekly emails.  I'm sure the one person who took advantage of them will understand.

Have yourselves a wonderful weekend.
Happy Scrapping,
Mandy :-)
